Creating an AngularJs directive for a horizontal scroller at top and bottom of HTML container element

I made an AngularJs directive today that adds a horizontal scroller at top and bottom of an HTML container element, such as text area, table or div. The AngularJs directive uses the link function of AngularJs to prepend and wrap the necessary scrolling mechanism and add some Javascript scroll event handlers using jQuery.

The HTML that uses this directive, restricted to 'C' (class) is then simply using the class 'double-Hscroll' following AngularJs 'snake escaping' naming convention of capitalization and dashes.

Aggregate in Typescript

I have implemented Aggregate method in my Linq library written for Typescript.

DistinctBy operator written in Typescript

I am extended my Linq library for Typescript with many more methods! Here is my implementation of DistinctBy.

Implementing Linq methods on arrays with Typescript for Angular 8

This article will look into implementing Linq methods on array with Typescript for Angular 8. First off, I have created a repo for this article on Github. Simple Linq Library written with Typescript for Angular 8 This only implements FirstOrDefault and Where Linq operators on arrays. We first need to define our Array prototype methods. Since we use Angular, first we define an empty module using export {} and then declare global { .. } Inside our declare global we define our type predicate and our methods Where and FirstOrDefault. Then we define our two methods if they do not exist yet on Array.prototype. The special syntax above is adaptions for Typescript and Angular. I have tested this with Angular 8. Here is the Typescript code I ended up with:

Now we can test out these predicate methods FirstOrDefault and Where ! Note that in case you have worked with C# and Linq before, the syntax and the Intellisense will make you feel more at home with this kind of code - not only do you have type checking, but you can also pass in strongly typed predicate methods using Typescript, Generics and the Array prototype techniques discussed here. Also note how I define a predicate type here defining an arrow function, being the predicate.

We now can work on our strongly typed arrays and define easily our filtering predicates for Where and FirstOrDefault implementation. It should be easy to extend this into more methods, such as SingleOrDefault and Any and so on. The screen shot below shows the results after running ng serve -o:

Generic method for builing a query string of classes in Typescript

This method below can be used in Typescript to build up a query string from a given object of a class instance in Typescript. Use it when performing HTTP(S) GET calls.

Angular 8 - Datepicker and timepicker

I have been looking at the ngx-bootstrap components for Angular lately. These components are very nice and similar to the components that Bootstrap provides, for Angular. I have tested it out with Angular 8. First off, we import the datepicker and time picker of this library like this: ng add ngx-bootstrap --components datepicker ng add ngx-bootstrap --components timepicker Inside your app.module.ts, you should see the two components imported:

Observe the localization adjustments I have included here, for Norwegian localization of the date picker. I also include a custom factory function for setting up the time picker to not show the meridian button, i.e. show a 24 hours format of the time.

Injecting text in html lists into lists using Sass

I wanted to test out if I could inject text via Sass style sheets to see if Sass could somehow support this. Of course, this is already possible in CSS using the nth-child selector and the ::after selector. Here is a sample of the technique used in this article! In Sass, however, we can inject text into a large list if we want. This means that the DOM must support the data you want to inject, if you want to inject for example five strings into an array of <ul> of <li> items, you must also have five items of <li> Anyways, this is what I ended up with:

We first declare an array in Sass using $coolitems: ('wig', 'makeup', 'lipstick', 'rouge', 'botox'). We then use the @for loop in Sass to get loop through this array. The syntax is: @for $i from 1 to length($coolarray)+1 I had to use the +1 here in my sample.. Then we grab hold of the current item using the nth function, passing in the array $coolitems and specifying the index $i. Now that we have the item of the $coolitems array, we can set the content CSS property of the n-th child and use the ::before (or ::after) selector. I tried to avoid using the +1 in the for loop, but then the last item of my array was not included in the list. Note - the use of the #{$i} in the syntax above. This is called variable interpolation in Sass. It is similar syntax-wise to variable interpolation in shell scripts, actually. We use it so that we can refer to the variable $i inside the nth-child operator of CSS selector. And the nth operator is as noted used to grab hold of the nth item of the Sass array. And your HTML will then look like this:
  <ul> 
            <li></li>   
            <li></li>           
            <li></li>  
            <li></li>    
            <li></li>        
        </ul>
So you actually now have a list in HTML which is empty, but the values are injected through CSS! And Sass makes supporting such scenarios easier. Now why the heck would you want such a thing? I do not know, I am more a backend developer than webdev frontend developer, it is though cool that you can load up data into the DOM using Sass and CSS

Call a Javascript function from Blazor page

This article will show how a Js function can be called from a Blazor page. First off, create a button like this:

Then define the .Net method to handle the onclick event.

The code invokes a registered function with the invoke method and passing in the method name and an argument. Note that you must add the Interop namespace to Blazor in AspNetCore. We then add the Js function, but Blazor will give you a compiler error if you put the Js function in the same file as the Blazor page. Instead, add it in the index.html file under wwwroot folder of your Blazor project (check the wwwroot folder). You can define the Js function in a .js file or right into the index.html file.

    Blazor.registerFunction('showAlert', (msg) => {
        console.log(msg);
        alert(msg);
        return true;

    });

Note that if you refactor the Js method, your reference in the .DotNet code of Blazor will of course go stale, and you must update it. Since we return true (as Blazor wants you to do), we can act upon that in the Blazor code as a callback (check the async modifier of the DotNet method). That is what you need to do to get started with calling Javascript from Blazor page running in DotNetCore 2.1 and later.
